20 lives saved since 2020 due to Spirit of Blue Donation of Tourniquets
HILO, Hawaii (Island News) -- More than 20 people in Hawaii are alive today thanks to the generous donation of nearly 500 tourniquets and holsters from the Spirit of Blue Foundation.
On Thursday, the Hawaii Police Department received an oversized check totaling nearly $40-thousand dollars from the national organization symbolizing the donation value amount of these life-saving tools.
The tourniquets have saved nearly two dozen lives since 2020, and roughly a dozen of the officers who have saved lives attended today's presentation in Hilo.
Two critical incidents in 2018 and 2019 highlighted the need for tourniquets for the department, which was one of only 35 agencies nationwide to receive the Spirit of Blue grant in July 2020.
